I Only Wanted to See How Far I Could Push You

You used to slur your words

like gurgling water after toothbrush

You used to whisper

To me, shouting across

The hallway and take me

On picnics in winter and

Run with three legs

Up the escalator.

We ate donuts after that.

You used to mute the tv

And watch the colours

Pixelating, breathtaking.

Did I crush you

Little one?

Were the rocks at the bottom

Of the cliff too much?

I wish I’d seen

Your skull splitting

Into streams of fireworks

And specks of ungathered wisdom.
